i'll bring in congressman adam schiff a democrat from california who is on the select committee on intelligence. representative, peter king basically saying yet more questions are arising from petraeus's testimony. what can you tell us about david petraeus's testimony this morning? >> i think he gave us a very candid assessment of his initial thoughts based on the best intelligence when he originally briefed us and how the assessments changed over time. and i think he and others have completely debunked the idea that there was some politicization of the intelligence. there's never been any substance to that charge. i can only surmise that, you know, this was a campaign era attack and some of my colleagues just can't let it go. all the evidence to the contrary they just can't seem to let it go. you know, people respected what he had to say today. many of us value the contributions he has made to the country and are sorry to see him go but, again, there is simply no there there. yes, they made errors in their initial assessment. that is going to happen. we have binders full of the raw intelligenc

employee thought you talk at the end of your article about the mexican mafia is operating in northern california. are there serious indications that they are and what are the chances we'll see more drug violence here in the u.s.? >> no, i don't think that there are of-that the mexican mafia is this a huge way involved in drug distribution at a local level inside the united states. i think one thing to keep in mind, the general talks about adolescent drug use numbers, but the numbers for overall drug use in particular for overall chronic drug use are down pretty dramatically over the last decade and a half. if you look at the numbers for cocaine, for example, according to the national household survey, we have half the number of chronic cocaine users that we did just six years ago. that's astonishing. so i think in the long run, what we're talking about is a market for drugs in the united states, particularly hard drugs, that is diminishing. and i think what you will see and that what we've already seen in the long arc since the crack epidemic is a decline in the violence that accompanies that. n

morning, now, i haven't seen it, but apparently there's this reality show about a couple of guys in california who carve impressive sculptures out of trees using chain saws. so a writer at "the new york times" gets a crazy idea and thinks, i wonder if they can teach me to do that over skype. you have got to click on my must read just to see how it all turned out. it's up on our facebook page at facebook/janua facebook/jansi facebook/jansingco. it's amazing what soup can do. starts with arthritis pain and a choice. take tylenol or take aleve, the #1 recommended pain reliever by orthopedic doctors. just two aleve can keep pain away all day. back to the news. just two aleve can keep pain away all day. music is a universal language. but when i was in an accident... i was worried the health care system spoke a language all its own with unitedhealthcare, i got help that fit my life. information on my phone. connection to doctors who get where i'm from. and tools to estimate what my care may cost. so i never missed a beat. we're more than 78,000 people looking out for more than 70 million americans.

depending how they rule on it, it may be good for california only. it may apply nationwide. one other quick one, chuck. california defeated a proposition that would have done away with the death penalty. >> also the marijuana laws, aren't there federal laws that trump state laws here? how does this work? >> well, there are federal laws. whether they will trump them in practice, i frankly doubt. i think what's going to happen here is the federal government is going to turn a blind eye to the recreational use of marijuana in these states as long as people don't abuse the state law and have enormous amounts. as a practical matter, federal drug agents don't want to prosecute people for an ounce of marijuana. e spsspecially in a state wherey want it to happen. and it's telling that several former drug agents, several former people who ran dea asked the justice department to oppose these measures and it wouldn't. >> pete williams with all things ballot initiatives and the legalities of them all. thank you, sir. >>> before we run to break, i got to show you
